Introducing Marcus Gerard Mosley: A Legend in the Making

I'd like to take a moment to share a bit about an extraordinary person: my son, Marcus Gerard Mosley. Born on the joyful day of December 24, 1991, he truly was a wonderful gift—a handsome, healthy, and irresistibly charming little bundle of joy! From the moment he arrived, he brightened our lives with his enchanting smile, even sporting the cutest bowlegs you've ever seen. Honestly, those legs could effortlessly win over anyone! As the middle child, Marcus looked up to his older brother, Barry P. Mosley, Jr. (BJ), and adored his little sister, Cortina M. Mosley.

As a kid, Marcus had brains and brawn. He dazzled everyone at Hemby Bridge Elementary School with his intellect, athleticism, and undeniable talent as a drummer. Honestly, it was impressive—he could probably drum up a crowd better than a marching band with his charm. Alongside his impressive skills on the drums, Marcus was also an exceptional young soccer player at Calvary Church. His natural talent on the field allowed him to play alongside his brother BJ and the older kids, showcasing his skills and determination. It was no surprise that people were inexplicably drawn to him from a young age; Marcus had that magical quality of being everyone’s best friend and a reliable confidant.

When it came to middle school, he continued to shine at Piedmont, where he flexed his athletic muscles and became a star on the football field and basketball court. Interestingly, he also had a keen sense of style that set him apart. Even in sixth grade, when his mustache began to form and he was already so well-built, he took great pride in his appearance. He was always dressed to impress, reflecting his commitment to self-care and self-expression. It was never about vanity for Marcus; he simply enjoyed presenting the best version of himself to the world.

During his eighth-grade championship basketball game at Porter Ridge Middle School against Weddington Middle School, he hit the winning shot. The crowd erupted with cheers, and I’m pretty sure for a moment, he thought he was in a movie! Featured in the local newspaper, he became the pride of the community, which only added to his growing fan club.

As time went on, he took his talents to Porter Ridge High School and later transferred to Sun Valley High School, finishing his senior year at Monroe High School. Marcus dominated in every game, effortlessly earning a name for himself as an elite football and basketball player at all three schools. Wherever he went, his friends followed—because who wouldn’t want to be around that magnetic personality? He never envied anyone or thought he was better; instead, he wanted everyone to win and always sought to elevate those around him.

Eventually, he received a scholarship to Winston-Salem State University to pursue his passion for football. But, as life sometimes throws curveballs, an unforeseen situation led him to withdraw and take on a trade. Marcus became a certified electrician and made quite a name for himself in both Charlotte, NC, and Austin, Texas. With hard work and determination, he climbed his way up to Foreman on several assignments—an accomplishment I’m still immensely proud of.

In adulthood, Marcus achieved so much that he was able to travel across the country and even overseas. With a charm that was impossible to resist and the good looks that matched, he quickly became a well-known figure. Women couldn’t help but be drawn to him; he was truly a ladies’ man but remained respectful and grounded. Marcus had an innate ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger and always making those around him feel special. He loved life to the fullest, always ready for an adventure or a good laugh, and his zest for living truly showcased his incredible spirit.

Sadly, the world lost Marcus on September 29, 2020, in a tragic and unexpected event that devastated our lives forever. Marcus was murdered in Burlington, NC, a heart-wrenching reality that ripped through our hearts and shattered our world. He was 28-years old. At the time, he was expecting his first child, Baby Marcus, who was born on April 22, 2021. Each day, I feel an overwhelming ache, knowing that while he has left us, his legacy endures through his beautiful child. The pain of his absence is a wound that will never heal, yet in Baby Marcus, a piece of his spirit lives on, reminding us of the love he brought into this world.

MARCUS GERARD MOSLEY was nothing short of extraordinary—a beacon of light and joy in our lives. With an undeniable swag, he was always impeccably dressed, effortlessly showcasing his keen sense of style that matched his vibrant personality. His radiant smile had a way of brightening even the darkest days, instantly lifting the spirits of everyone around him. He possessed a charisma that was truly contagious; it drew people in and made them feel valued and seen. His laughter resonated like music, creating an atmosphere of warmth and happiness wherever he went. Marcus had a unique gift for making every moment memorable and fun, leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed his path. His passion for life and genuine love for others shone through in everything he did, making him a remarkable son, a cherished friend, and an unforgettable soul. While we deeply mourn his loss, we celebrate the incredible legacy of love and joy he left behind—a legacy that continues to inspire us every day.
