A Mother’s Journey from Pain to Advocacy
My name is Tina Sykes-Mosley, founder of Mothers Advocating for Real Change and Unwavering Support (M.A.R.C.U.S.)—a nonprofit born from unimaginable loss and fierce love.
On September 29, 2020, my world was shattered. That night, a phone call changed everything: my son, Marcus Gerard Mosley, had been murdered. He was 28 years old—vibrant, compassionate, full of promise. The tragedy struck during what should have been an ordinary evening, stealing my son’s life and leaving behind a void too deep for words.
The pain was suffocating. The grief, isolating. I searched for others who understood this unbearable loss—the quiet ache of a mother robbed of her child by senseless violence. In that search, I discovered my purpose.
M.A.R.C.U.S. was created to honor Marcus’s memory and support grieving mothers like myself. It’s a community of strength, a safe haven to share sorrow, find healing, and advocate for change. Through our mission, we empower mothers to rise—not only for ourselves, but for the children we’ve lost and the justice they deserve.
While the scar of losing Marcus will never fade, I’ve chosen to turn tragedy into purpose. I invite you to walk with us—toward healing, toward justice, and toward a world where no mother carries this pain alone.

I will always love you, my beloved son,
Marcus Gerard Mosley Your memory lives on in my heart, guiding me through each day with the love we shared.
Love endures, even beyond the loss.

Introducing Marcus Gerard Mosley: A Legend in the Making
Born on December 24, 1991, Marcus Gerard Mosley arrived as a true gift—a joyful, brilliant, and irresistibly charming child who lit up every room with his infectious smile. As the middle child, he looked up to his older brother BJ and cherished his younger sister Cortina, forming an unbreakable bond with family from the start.
Marcus excelled in everything he touched—from academics to athletics to music. At school, he was a standout soccer football and basketball player, a talented drummer, and a natural leader with charisma that drew people in. He carried himself with pride—not out of ego, but out of love for how he showed up in the world.
His athletic journey spanned multiple high schools where he left a lasting impression as a multi-sport star, earning the respect and admiration of peers and coaches alike. He later earned a scholarship to pursue football but transitioned into the electrical trade, becoming a certified electrician and respected foreman in North Carolina and Texas.
Marcus lived life with unstoppable energy. Whether traveling the world, bonding with friends, or lighting up rooms with his laughter, he made others feel seen, loved, and uplifted. Tragically, on September 29, 2020, Marcus was taken from us in Burlington, NC—just months before the birth of his son, Baby Marcus, who arrived on April 22, 2021.
His passing left an unfillable void, yet his legacy lives on—in his child, in every heart he touched, and in the movement sparked by his name. Marcus embodied joy, generosity, and an undeniable swag that made him unforgettable. He was a legend not because of what he achieved, but because of how deeply he loved and how profoundly he inspired.
